Positive Daily Affirmations and Your Overall Health

Daily AffirmationsFor those who have anxiety, depression, other mental health disorders, or even those who have stable mental health; thinking positively is an important step in achieving overall health and a positive outlook on life. When you have anxiety or depression, your brain is normally instantly thinking negatively about almost every aspect of yourself and life in general. One of the most effective treatments for these mental health disorders is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. CBT is done in sessions with a professional therapist or can be done at home on your own time. It is essentially replacing each negative thought or mistaken belief you have with a positive thought or the truth.

When you have a mental health disorder like anxiety, depression, specific phobias and obsessive compulsive disorder you have actually done the reverse of positive affirmations. You have, inadvertently, trained your brain to think negatively or to be afraid. This is completely reversible and can be done very easily by dedicating yourself to think positively by using positive daily affirmations.

What is Daily Affirmation?

Daily affirmation is the act of reading or saying a positive quote or saying each day. You can do this at any time of the day and it works more effectively if you do it throughout the day. You can make up your ownaffirmation or you can find many resources online for finding a daily affirmation to live by for the day.

When you decide to dedicate yourself to positive daily affirmation, it is important to know that it won’t work instantly. You might feel instantly better the first couple of days; but this is normally a placebo effect. Once you have gotten into the routine of daily affirmation, you will notice that rather than thinking negatively, you will be thinking positively about most everything.

When you think negatively, it doesn’t only make you have a bad outlook on yourself and on life; it can also cause anxiety and depression as well as give you a lack in energy, health and make you feel like life isn’t worth living. Rather than putting yourself down “I’m having such a bad hair day”, you can replace that thought with something else like “Maybe I should go to the hair salon and treat myself to a haircut and color.” Many with anxiety or who are in the habit of thinking negatively would then go on to say “I can’t afford it, I don’t have the time, I have to go to the hair salon because my hair looks bad.” If you feel yourself falling into this sort of thinking you should consider finding something else to focus on. Reciting positiveaffirmation, watching TV, writing positive thoughts and goals into a journal, taking up knitting or some other hobby can be a great way to get your mind off of your negative thinking habits.

If you are determined to get your life back on the right track; to feel healthier, feel more energetic, and feel better about life in general; dedicate yourself to positive daily affirmations and you will begin to see a difference quickly. Recite daily affirmation while taking a brisk walk; tell yourself that you are proud of yourself for taking the right steps toward overall health. Reward yourself with little treats, like an espresso after a nice walk, or a trip to the spa after a month of no negative thinking.

Simply replacing your negative thinking with inspirational affirmations is one of the simplest, but also difficult, things to do to achieve overall mental health. When your mental health is stable and your outlook on yourself and your life are positive, you will see the changes in your entire life; your job, exercising, your family life, dating life, and so much more.

So get out there and say “I CAN do this” and start treating your brain the way it was meant to be treated. The brain responds much better with positive thinking; much like children who are misbehaving; when you reward good behavior you will see results. Don’t give your negative thinking the satisfaction of taking over your life, take charge of your own life by reciting positive daily affirmations to yourself and soon enough your positive thinking will come naturally and so will your overall health.
