In many ways, life is experienced through contrast. It is because of darkness that we perceive light, hope often arises out of despair and masculine and feminine are like the poles of a magnet, drawn together through attraction to their opposites. Nature always seeks balance and yet life almost never exists in perfect balance. It is in order to correct the current imbalance in our world that a massive shift in global consciousness is beginning.
For over 2,000 years, masculine structures and values have dominated throughout most of the world. This has led to a state of great imbalance, resulting in an excess of masculine or yang energy, which has become aggressive, dominant, controlling and egocentric. This is seen in escalating wars and social unrest, increased police and government power and control and destruction of the earth’s resources, until our very survival as a race is under threat. A cry for balance is being sent out across the planet and there is an answer.
Out of destruction and chaos, is emerging the feminine consciousness of love, compassion and connection. Networks of people across the globe are calling governments to take action, to stop the increasing environmental degradation. Modern media and in particular the internet, are the means of sharing a vast web of information that facilitates global awareness of individual and social injustice, violence and oppression toward various racial and cultural groups. Armed with knowledge and people power, concerted action is being taken worldwide to demand changes in policy and united national and international action. Communities are finding ways to implement sustainable living through measures such as growing their own food, sharing resources and working together for common goals. It is both a grass roots and a global networking movement, which is developing through people working together to bring about change and to create the world we choose to live in. There is a growing realisation that we are all connected and at a deeper level we are One.
The emerging feminine consciousness brings the realisation that at an essential level we are interdependent and connected to each other and our planet earth. Through our culture of separation and disconnection, we have forgotten our intrinsic connection with mother earth and that we are reliant on her for our nourishment and our very existence. As we damage the earth, through plundering her resources and chemical use and abuse, we are beginning to see the effect. I believe that the dramatic earth changes that are taking place are part of that effect. Perhaps we are beginning to realise that what we do to the earth we do to ourselves. Our connection and reliance on the earth is at the root of our existence.
To ensure our survival and to evolve as human beings, we need to find ways of working together, restoring peace and harmony and living in ways that are sustainable. We need a new vision of society, which incorporates feminine and holistic structures and values. Can we envision a society where the language of the heart is listened to as well as the voice of reason? Are we capable of cultivating interconnection and interdependence instead of status and competition? Will we choose to create a society where feminine values such as peace and kindness are seen as our greatest strengths, instead of weakness and working together toward common goals becomes possible?
This shift in consciousness is happening. It is time to invite and allow feminine consciousness to transform and balance an overtly masculine based society, in order to move to a new level of consciousness. A higher consciousness of balance, wholeness and unity; where male and female energies work in partnership and right relationship with each other and our planet earth. A consciousness based on our interconnection to all of life.
