Unlocking the Biblical Keys to a Satisfying Life

Biblical KeysThe Bible holds many keys to having a satisfying life. While some of these keys may sound simplistic in nature, the truth is man isn’t strong enough to handle the keys on their own. The keys only work in the hands of individuals who trust God and who have set ‘self’ aside.

Here are just three of the Biblical keys to a satisfying life:

Handle and Adjust to Change

If you want a satisfying life you must accept that life is full of change. There will be up times and down times. There will be situations that shake you up, frighten you, make you angry, and more. How do you act and react when change comes along in your life?

Paul says in Philippians 4: 11-13 “…I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.”

Over the course of Paul’s life he experienced a lot of change and he learned to adjust to all kinds of circumstances. Our happiness in life is dependent on our ability to do the same. We must learn to adjust, be flexible and adapt when change comes. And, while change isn’t always easy and we may not like what is happening—our inner peace and joy that we find in God should be independent of our circumstances.

There is real freedom in not being a victim to changes in the external. When you find that, you will be able to get on top of the changes in your life and move within them, rather than feeling as if the changes are on top of you and moving you.

Don’t Compare and Be Content

If you want to have a satisfying life you must stop comparing yourself to others. There will always be people who have more money and material possessions than you. Your happiness and feelings of satisfaction about your life shouldn’t be impacted by what other’s possess and what you think you lack. Having more doesn’t equal happiness. Possessions are temporary.

I Timothy 6:6-8 says “A devout life does bring wealth, but it’s the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that’s enough.”

Sure, everyone wants opportunities and nice things. There is nothing wrong with working towards obtaining them either. Just don’t get obsessed about possessions and tie your self-worth to them. When you do and you compare what you have or don’t have to others—you are not being faithful with what you have been blessed with and you will always feel unsatisfied.

Luke 16:10 tells us that “Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones…”

One of the best Biblical keys to a satisfying life is learning to be faithful and content with what you have and not comparing yourself to others. When you can do this you are showing God that you can be trusted to be faithful with more.

Turn to God to Meet Your Needs

When you purchase an insurance policy you trust that it will cover the things that are listed in the policy. When the time arrives and you need to do so, you file a claim and the insurance company takes care of the situations covered in the policy for you. When you become a Christian, you must learn to trust God. His ‘policy’ is the Bible. The Bible is full of thousands of promises. But, if you don’t read the policy, you don’t know what is covered and you can’t make a claim.

One of the keys to a satisfying life is trusting God to meet your needs.

Matthew 6:31-33 says “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ….for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

So, how do you seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness? You have to read his Word, talk to Him in prayer, and strive to live a holy life. This will enable you to develop a relationship with God. (There is a difference between knowing who God is and having a relationship with Him.) When you do these things and begin a relationship with God, you can rest knowing that He will meet your needs—no matter how impossible they may seem. Knowing that the creator of the universe is handling things is the best insurance policy of them all.
